John Warren’s Kala Sankalita ) Russians continued to employ this aera until 1700 (reign of Peter the Great) and although the ecclesiastical new year day fell? According to some authors, on 21st March and according to others on 1st April, yet the civil year began on 1st September. Picot, "Tab. Chron." I, 245. See BC 5500. The same year (5508) was deduced by Joseph Scaliger from the Septuagint. Clinton says BC 5508. Nicephorus says B. C. 5507, or 5506. According to Bailly, the (modern) Persian chronology gives B. C. 5507. Bury says (for Byzantium) 5509. "Later Rom. Emp" II, xxii. The Rev. DrHales gives 120 different years for the creation, varying from B. C. 6984 (Alfonso X, King of Spain) to BC 3616 (Rabbi Lipman, in "Universal History") and adds that this number might be swelled to 300. Dr Hales himself fixed the Creation at B. C. 5411.
